Nicholas Nemo Bottman is a Portland Oregon based artist, focusing mainly on painting. His paintings are densely layered compositions, that explore color, pattern, and movement. For many years he has been exploring the idea of painting processes by meticulously documenting his work in time-lapse video format, often displaying the films alongside the finished paintings. Working in this manner offers the viewer a glimpse into the studio, and process that is involved in making complicated abstract statements. So while the finished paintings are ultimately static objects, the process films act as a history of the multilayered movement that lay, often hidden, beneath the surface of the paint. Music and film often serve as inspiration to Nicholas‘ work, as does the simple desire to produce fantastically lush meditations in an often harried and troublesome world.
